Predictive factors of school performance in SAEB assessments: influence of school management

Resumo: | The activities developed in the school environment, by the School Director, can contribute for the educational institution to reach different levels in terms of educational quality, and this differential can be the result of the level of experience of the Director. Thus, the objective of this article was to observe which factors referring to the activities of the School Directors could contribute to the performance of high school students, in the large scale assessments of SAEB in 2017. After data collection on the government websit , the tasks related to the selection and treatment of these data were carried out and soon after, the Educational Data Mining phase, which included the execution of the Decision Tree, Random Forest and Gradient Boosted Tree algorithms. The results found by the Data Mining phase indicated that for both Portuguese and Mathematics, the Time of Experience of the School Director, in the exercise of the function, can contribute for the high school students to obtain better performances in the SAEB evaluations, in addition to this factor, others such as postgraduate level, actions to control failures and the socioeconomic level of the school also contributed to the students' academic performance. A more detailed study of the factors influencing performance can contribute to the elaboration of projects, which involve public policies, and which promote improvements in the entire school environment, as well as in the performance of students. |

Así, el objetivo de este artículo fue observar qué factores referidos a las actividades de los Directores Escolares podrían contribuir al desempeño de los estudiantes de secundaria, en las evaluaciones a gran escala del SAEB en 2017. Después de la recolección de datos en el sitio web del gobierno , se llevaron a cabo las tareas relacionadas con la selección y tratamiento de estos datos y poco después, la fase de Minería de Datos Educativos, que incluyó la ejecución de los algoritmos Decision Tree, Random Forest y Gradient Boosted Tree. Los resultados encontrados por la fase de Data Mining indicaron que tanto para Portugués como para Matemáticas, el Tiempo de Experiencia del Director de la Escuela, en el ejercicio de la función, puede contribuir para que los estudiantes de secundaria obtengan mejores desempeños en las evaluaciones SAEB, Además de este factor, otros como el nivel de posgrado, las acciones de control de fallas y el nivel socioeconómico de la escuela también contribuyeron al rendimiento académico de los estudiantes. Un estudio más detallado de los factores que influyen en el desempeño puede contribuir a la elaboración de proyectos, que involucran políticas públicas, y que promueven mejoras en todo el entorno escolar, así como en el desempeño de los estudiantes.As atividades desenvolvidas no ambiente escolar, pelo Diretor de Escola, podem contribuir para que a instituição de ensino alcance níveis diferenciados em termos de qualidade educacional, e esse diferencial pode ser fruto do nível de experiência do Diretor. Dessa forma, o objetivo desse artigo foi observar quais fatores referente às atividades dos Diretores de Escola puderam contribuir para o desempenho dos alunos do Ensino Médio, nas avaliações em larga escala do SAEB no ano de 2017. Após a coleta dos dados no site do governo, foram executadas as tarefas relacionadas a seleção e tratamento desses dados e logo após, a fase de Mineração de Dados Educacionais, que contemplou a execução dos algoritmos Árvore de Decisão, Random Forest e Gradient Boosted Tree. Os resultados encontrados pela fase de Mineração de Dados indicaram que tanto para Língua Portuguesa quanto para Matemática, o Tempo de Experiência do Diretor de Escola, no exercício da função, pode contribuir para que os alunos do Ensino Médio obtivessem melhores desempenhos nas avaliações do SAEB, além desse fator outros como nível de pós-graduação, ações para controle de reprovações e Nível Socioeconômico da escola também contribuíram para o desempenho escolar dos alunos.
