Use of Instagram as a study tool: analysis of a profile of the biological area

Resumo: | In times of technology and information sharing, social media play an important role in the dissemination of works by brazilian universities. Instagram, a social media for sharing images and videos, can be used as tool for scientific dissemination, reaching an audience that seeks this type of information. The Laboratory of Microscopy of the Federal University of Santa Catarina - Campus Araranguá created a profile of the biological area with the username atlasmicroscopia that has as purpose the sharing of images taken in the laboratory coming from practical classes of the courses of the health area. The objective of this study is to describe the profile of the followers as well as analyze the growth of the profile in the period of one year. Atlasmicroscopia profile was logged and some data were compiled: number of likes, saved photos, profile visits and reach. Thirty two publications were selected and these were divided into two groups: Group 1(publication 1 to 16) and Group 2 (publication 17 to 32). Statistical analysis was performed between the groups with the variables: number of likes, photos saved, profile visits and reach. P <0.05 was considered. There was a significant difference between the groups in all variables. Group 2 had a greater number of interactions with users. The profile has achieved its purpose of disseminating images produced in the laboratory and sharing scientific content to its followers, in order to complement classroom content and assist in the construction of knowledge. |

Instagram, red social de intercambio de imágenes y vídeos, puede ser utilizado como herramienta de divulgación científica, alcanzando un público que busca este tipo de información. Laboratorio de Microscopía de la Universidad Federal de Santa Catarina - Campus Araranguá creó un perfil del área biológica con nombre de usuario atlasmicroscopia que tiene por finalidad el intercambio de imágenes realizadas en el laboratorio provenientes de clases prácticas de los cursos del área de la salud. El propósito del estudio es describir el perfil de los seguidores, así como analizar su crecimiento durante un período de un año. Se ingresó en el perfil atlasmicroscopia y datos fueron compilados: número de curtidos, fotos guardadas, visitas del perfil y alcance. Se seleccionaron treinta dos publicaciones y se dividieron en dos grupos: Grupo 1 (publicación 1 a 16) y Grupo 2 (publicación 17 a 32). Se realizó el análisis estadístico entre los grupos con las variables: número de me gustas, fotos guardadas, visitas del perfil y alcance. Se consideró p <0,05. Hubo diferencias significativas entre los grupos en todas las variables. Grupo 2 tuvo mayor número de interacciones con los usuários. El perfil ha alcanzado su propósito de divulgar imágenes producidas en el laboratorio y compartir contenido científico para sus seguidores, para complementar el contenido del aula y auxiliar en la construcción del conocimiento.Em tempos de tecnologias e compartilhamento de informações, as redes sociais têm papel importante na divulgação de trabalhos das universidades brasileiras. O Laboratório de Microscopia da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina – Campus Araranguá criou um perfil da área biológica com o nome de usuário atlasmicroscopia que tem por finalidade o compartilhamento de imagens realizadas no laboratório provenientes de aulas práticas dos cursos da área da saúde. O objetivo deste estudo é descrever o perfil dos seguidores bem como analisar o crescimento do perfil no período de um ano. Procedeu-se a análise estatística entre os grupos com as variáveis: número de curtidas, fotos salvas, visitas do perfil e alcance. Considerou-se p<0,05. Houve diferença significativa entre os grupos em todas as variáveis. O grupo 2 teve maior número de interações com os usuários.
