Possible impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on children's mental health and the role of parents in this scenario

Resumo: | A pandemic caused by the new coronavirus requires people to change abruptly in their daily lives around the world. With the suspension of face-to-face educational activities and the experience of social isolation, children's mental health was also affected. Thus, the objective of this study is to denote, through a narrative review of the literature, that can affect the pandemic of COVID-19 in the mental health of children, as well as the role of parents in this scenario. To survey studies on this topic, the Google academic, Pubmed and Lilacs platforms were used, 7 articles were selected and only 5 were used in the final sample. The results demonstrate an occurrence of several mental disorders in children, from psychological symptoms such as stress, anxiety and irritability. In this way, parents can use strategies to help their children deal with changes caused by social isolation. Finally, even with few published studies, check if children are influenced by changes in their routine, highlighting the fundamental importance of parents in promoting their children's mental health. |

Con la suspensión de las actividades educativas presenciales y la experiencia del aislamiento social, la salud mental de los niños también se vio afectada. Por lo tanto, el objetivo de este estudio es denotar, a través de una revisión narrativa de la literatura, que puede afectar la pandemia de COVID-19 en la salud mental de los niños, así como el papel de los padres en este escenario. Para encuestar estudios sobre este tema, se utilizaron las plataformas académicas de Google, Pubmed y Lilacs, se seleccionaron 7 artículos y solo 5 se usaron en la muestra final. Los resultados demuestran la aparición de varios trastornos mentales en niños, a partir de síntomas psicológicos como el estrés, la ansiedad y la irritabilidad. De esta manera, los padres pueden usar estrategias para ayudar a sus hijos a lidiar con los cambios causados por el aislamiento social. Finalmente, incluso con pocos estudios publicados, verifique si los niños están influenciados por los cambios en su rutina, destacando la importancia fundamental de los padres para promover la salud mental de sus hijos.A pandemia causada pelo novo coronavírus tem exigido das pessoas mudanças bruscas em seu cotidiano todo o mundo. Com a suspensão das atividades educacionais presenciais e com a vivência do isolamento social, a saúde mental das crianças também tem sido afetada. Dessa forma, o objetivo deste estudo é denotar, por meio de uma revisão narrativa da literatura, possíveis impactos causados pela pandemia do COVID-19 na saúde mental de crianças, bem como papel dos pais neste cenário. Para o levantamento dos estudos acerca desta temática, foram utilizadas as plataformas Google acadêmico, Pubmed e Lilacs, em que foram selecionados 7 artigos e utilizados apenas 5 na amostra final. Os resultados demonstram a ocorrência de diversos impactos na saúde mental das crianças, a partir de sintomas psicológicos como estresse, ansiedade e irritabilidade. Deste modo, os pais necessitam lançar mão de estratégias para auxiliar os filhos a lidarem com as mudanças causadas pelo isolamento social.
