The records of public instruction classes in the Cidade do Príncipe in the Provincial Reports from 1870 to 1889: an eye on the Seridó school education

Resumo: | The aim of this paper is to present a sample about the public instruction in Cidade do Príncipe, based on the information made available in the Provincial Reports of the Rio Grande do Norte in the corresponding period from 1870 to 1889, the final years of the Empire. Methodologically we performed a bibliographical research, studying the writings of classics authors of history as Demerval Saviani and José Ricardo Pires de Almeida; authors that studied the Seridó region in its different aspects, including the educational, as Muirakytan K. de Macêdo, Olavo Medeiros Filho and Olívia Medeiros Neta/ theses and dissertations; other written sources as the Law and Provincial Reports. From this bibliographical and sources survey, the data were crossed and this allowed us a perception, although initial, of the school educational scenario in Seridó. In this survey it was possible understand that the trigger of the public instruction in the region was still something little encouraged in face of the found records in the Reports. Therefore, the first impressions realized highlight that the education in the region of Cidade do Príncipe in the studied period was still mainly based on teaching the precepts of moral and Christian doctrine. |

Metodológicamente realizamos una investigación bibliográfica, inclinándose en escritos de autores clásicos de la historia como Dermeval Saviani y José Ricardo Pires de Almeida; los autores que estudian la región del Seridó en sus distintos aspectos, incluso educacionales, como Muirakytan K. de Macêdo, Olavo Medeiros Filho y Olivia Medeiros Neta; tesis y disertaciones; otras fuentes escritas como Legislación e Informes Provinciales. Con ese levantamiento de bibliografía y fuentes, los datos fueron cruzados y esto nos permitió una percepción, aunque inicial, del escenario educativo escolar en el Seridó. En ese levantamiento fue posible percibir que el estímulo de la instrucción pública en la región aún era algo poco fomentado ante los registros encontrados en los Informes. Por lo tanto, las primeras impresiones percibidas destacan que la educación en la región de la Ciudad del Príncipe, en el período investigado, todavía estaba predominantemente basada en las enseñanzas de los preceptos morales y en la Doctrina Cristiana.O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar uma amostra a respeito da instrução pública na Cidade do Príncipe, realizada a partir das informações disponibilizadas nos Relatórios Provinciais da Província do Rio Grande do Norte no período que corresponde de 1870 a 1889, anos finais do Império. Metodologicamente realizamos uma pesquisa bibliográfica, debruçando-nos em escritos de autores clássicos da história como Dermeval Saviani e José Ricardo Pires de Almeida; autores que estudam a região do Seridó em seus distintos aspectos, inclusive educacionais, como Muirakytan K. de Macêdo, Olavo Medeiros Filho e Olívia Medeiros Neta; teses e dissertações; outras fontes escritas como Legislação e Relatórios Provinciais. Com esse levantamento de bibliografia e fontes, os dados foram cruzados e isto nos permitiu uma percepção, embora inicial, do cenário educacional escolar no Seridó. Nesse levantamento foi possível perceber que o estimulo da instrução pública na região ainda era algo pouco fomentado diante dos registros encontrados nos Relatórios.
