Health professionals' perceptions about early diagnosis and communication and relational skills in the care of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Resumo: | Objectives: The objective of this research is to identify the perceptions of health professionals about early diagnosis and communicational and relational skills in the care of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Methodology: Cross-sectional, qualitative study with health professionals who care for patients with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, residing in Itajubá-MG. Data were analyzed according to Bardin's content analysis methodology. Results: Six central themes were found about the perceptions of health professionals about early diagnosis and communication and relational skills in the care of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder: Benefits of early diagnosis: better clinical evolution (100%); Relevance of foster care in the treatment of ASD (100%); Challenges in the interaction between health professionals and patients: communication strategies (91.6%); Competences and abilities in the health professional/patient relationship: empathy (75%); Privileged diagnostic signs: developmental delays (66.6%); Challenges for the feasibility of treatment with the multidisciplinary team (66.6%). Conclusion: It was possible to show that the great benefit of early ASD diagnosis is the better clinical evolution of the autistic patient, being possible to work on strategies that favor communication and the individual's integral development. |

Metodología: Estudio cualitativo, transversal, con profesionales de la salud que atienden a personas con Trastorno del Espectro Autista, residentes en Itajubá-MG. Los datos se analizaron según la metodología de análisis de contenido de Bardin. Resultados: Se encontraron seis temas centrales sobre las percepciones de los profesionales de la salud sobre el diagnóstico precoz y las habilidades comunicativas y relacionales en el cuidado de niños con Trastorno del Espectro Autista: Beneficios del diagnóstico precoz: mejor evolución clínica (100%); Relevancia del cuidado familiar en el tratamiento del TEA (100%); Desafíos en la interacción profesionales de la salud-paciente: estrategias de comunicación (91,6%); Competencias y habilidades en la relación profesional sanitario/paciente: empatía (75%); Principales signos diagnósticos: retrasos en el desarrollo (66,6%); Desafíos para la viabilidad del tratamiento con el equipo multidisciplinario (66,6%). Conclusión: Se pudo evidenciar que el gran beneficio del diagnóstico temprano de los TEA es la mejor evolución clínica del paciente autista, pudiendo trabajar estrategias que favorezcan la comunicación y el desarrollo integral del individuo.Objetivos: O objetivo desta pesquisa é identificar as percepções dos profissionais da saúde sobre o diagnóstico precoce e habilidades comunicacionais e relacionais no cuidado da criança com Transtorno do Espectro Autista. Metodologia: Estudo transversal, qualitativo, com profissionais da saúde, que atendem portadores doTranstorno do Espectro Autista, residentes em Itajubá-MG. Os dados foram analisados segundo a metodologia de análise de conteúdo de Bardin. Resultados: Foram encontradas seis temáticas centrais acerca das percepções dos profissionais da saúde sobre o diagnóstico precoce e habilidades comunicacionais e relacionais no cuidado da criança com Transtorno do Espectro Autista: Benefícios do diagnóstico precoce: melhor evolução clínica (100%); Relevância do acolhimento familiar no tratamento do TEA (100%); Desafios na interação profissionais de saúde paciente: estratégias de comunicação (91,6%); Competências e habilidades na relação profissional de saúde/paciente: empatia (75%); Sinais privilegiados do diagnóstico: atrasos do desenvolvimento (66,6 %); Desafios para a viabilização do tratamento junto à equipe multiprofissional (66,6 %).
