Resumo: The objective of this research was to analyze the difficulties faced by parents in the treatment of children with autism spectrum disorder. Searches were carried out in the databases of journals Virtual Health Library - VHL using a combination of keywords, and the reported results were tabulated and analyzed. It was found that the first ones date from 2017. The methodology used consisted of an integrative review. Thus, it was observed that most parents of autistic children tend to experience difficulties. The main results were: impacts on the mental health of parents of children with ASD; triggers of mental health problems during treatment and strategies to face challenges during treatment. It is concluded that autism triggers a physical and mental overload, that is, it affects the family as a whole, as well as changes in routine, dynamics and family relationships. Therefore, the family needs to be involved in the child's treatment, to value support professionals who respond to the children's needs, and to recognize the importance of early diagnosis and the encouragement of healthy living, both family and social. In this context, initially, they express a phase of disbelief before accepting and dealing with the diagnosis, others are able to cope better, but they are concerned with the treatments and challenges of including their children in society.

In this context, initially, they express a phase of disbelief before accepting and dealing with the diagnosis, others are able to cope better, but they are concerned with the treatments and challenges of including their children in society.
