Higher Education Evasion: an analysis of the Physics Degree Course- João Câmara Campus (2009-2019) at the Rio Grande do Norte Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology in Brazil

Resumo: This article analyzes the phenomenon of scholar class evasion regarding the Physics undergraduate course the period of 2009 to 2019 in the Federal Institute for Education, Science and Technology of the State of Rio Grande do Norte in the João Câmara Campus in Natal-Brazil. The methodology used was a qualitative and quantitative approach considering evasion rates status present in Educational Reports from 2009 to 2019, profiles of incoming, evaded and alumni students; aiming to understand the frequency of institutional abandonment. Data was also collected through a solicitation sent to the course coordinator of the referred campus aiming to gather information regarding evaded student’s data available through the Academic Campus Office, in the Unified Public Administration System (Education module), statistics present in Education Indicators, the Institute´s Strategic Plan for Permanence and Success (2016-2018). The research was based on theoretical landmarks present in the works of Gaioso (2005), Baggi and Lopes (2011), Marques (2014), Santos and Silva (2011). Results reveal that student evasion is high in the Physics Degree Course in the João Câmara Campus reaching 76,7% of students from the class of 2013.  In addition to this, results enabled to draw a profile of the students regarding their course entry, their trajectory, as well as to raise reflections on the factors of this Brazilian institutional and educational problems, which are extremely important for the understanding the student evasion phenomenon in the realm of academic Education. The research output also enables to monitor indicators related to academic higher education.

The research output also enables to monitor indicators related to academic higher education.Este artículo analiza el fenómeno de la deserción en el nivel de educación superior, en particular los índices deserción anual y por clase relativos al período 2009 a 2019 de la Licenciatura en Física del Instituto Federal de Educación, Ciencia y Tecnología del Rio Grande del Norte/IFRN-Campus João Câmara. Con respecto a la metodología, la investigación sigue un enfoque cuali-cuantitativo que investigó la tasa de estudiantes con el status de deserción en los informes de enseñanza (2009-2019), dando como resultado el perfil de los alumnos ingresantes, egresos y que desertaron. Fueron obtenidos en la Oficina Académica del campus y en Sistema Unificado de Administración Pública/SUAP del IFRN, en el módulo Enseñanza, los datos estadísticos sobre los indicadores de enseñanza. Los análisis se fundamentaron en los delineamentos teóricos de Gaioso (2005), Baggi y Lopes (2011), Marques (2014) y Santos y Silva (2011). Destacamos que los datos también fueron analizados a la luz de los indicadores del Plan Estratégico para la Permanencia y Éxito/PEPE-IFRN. Además, los resultados permitieron tarzar un perfil de los estudiantes, desde su entrada en la carrera, su trayectoria, así como plantear reflexiones sobre los factores de este problema institucional y educativo brasileño, que son extremadamente importantes para comprender el fenómeno de la deserción en la enseñanza superior. Lo que ha permitido generar indicadores de monitoreo y de flujo en la educación superior y, cuando corresponde, académico.O artigo analisa o fenômeno da evasão no nível de ensino superior, particularizando os índices de evasão anual e por turmas concernentes ao período 2009 a 2019 no Curso de Licenciatura em Física, do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Rio Grande do Norte/IFRN-Campus João Câmara. No tocante à metodologia, a pesquisa tem abordagem quali-quantitativa na qual se investigou o índice de estudantes com o status de evadido nos Relatórios de Ensino (2009-2019), resultando em um perfil dos alunos ingressantes, egressos e evadidos, como também de compreensão da frequência de abandono institucional. O levantamento dos dados foi realizado por meio de ofício enviado ao coordenador do curso do IFRN-Campus João Câmara, visando obter as informações necessárias a respeito dos estudantes evadidos. Obtivemos na Secretaria Acadêmica do campus e no Sistema Unificado de Administração Pública/SUAP do IFRN, no Módulo Ensino, os dados estatísticos acerca dos Indicadores de Ensino. Fundamentamos as análises nos direcionamentos teóricos de Gaioso (2005), Baggi e Lopes (2011), Marques (2014) e Santos e Silva (2011). Destacamos que os dados obtidos também foram analisados à luz dos indicadores do Plano Estratégico para Permanência e Êxito/PEPE-IFRN (2016-2018). Além disso, nos possibilitaram traçar um perfil dos estudantes, a partir de seu ingresso na licenciatura, sua trajetória, bem como suscitar reflexões sobre os fatores dessa problemática institucional e educacional brasileira, que se fazem de extrema importância à compreensão do fenômeno da evasão no ensino superior.
