The internationalization process of the higher education institution: Paraíba State University in focus

Resumo: In the current scenario, marked by globalization, building policies aimed at university internationalization, through cooperation between higher education institutions, are strategic actions that corroborate the university mission. Internationalization of higher education institutions is considered one of the four pillars of higher education, along with teaching, research and extension. From this perspective, this article aims to analyze the confluence between the internationalization process of Paraíba State University - UEPB and the participation of professors in this phenomenon. The methodology used comprises a quantitative and qualitative approach. We used as methodological instrument an online questionnaire, built according to the concepts studied in the theoretical framework, that was made available on the website of that institution from February 28 to March 31, 2019, as well as notes collected in the observation visits made on the eight campuses that make up the university. This research was attended by 107 professors from UEPB. The results showed that the involvement of UEPB professors in the internalization process of the institution is still incipient, thus requiring greater mobilization of the academic community for the effective development of such process, as well as an institutional effort to expand and consolidate international cooperation. Therefore, UEPB needs to invest in institutional policies to strengthen internationalization.

La internacionalización de las instituciones de educación superior, en el tiempo actual, es considerada uno de los cuatro pilares de la educación superior, junto con la enseñanza, la investigación y la extensión. Desde esta perspectiva, este artículo tiene como objetivo principal analizar la confluencia entre el proceso de internacionalización de la Universidad Estatal de Paraíba - UEPB y la participación de sus profesores en este fenómeno. La metodología utilizada comprende un enfoque cuantitativo y cualitativo. Utilizamos como instrumento metodológico un cuestionario on line, construido de acuerdo con los conceptos abordados en el marco teórico, que estuvo disponible en el sitio web de dicha institución del 28 de febrero al 31 de marzo de 2019, así como a través de las notas recopiladas en las visitas de observación realizadas en los ocho campus que componen la universidad. A esta investigación asistieron 107 maestros de la UEPB. Los resultados mostraron que la participación de los docentes UEPB en el proceso de internalización de la institución aún es incipiente, lo que requiere una mayor movilización de la comunidad académica para el desarrollo efectivo de dicho proceso, así como un esfuerzo institucional para expandir y consolidar las cooperaciones internacionales. Por lo tanto, UEPB necesita desarrollar una mayor inversión en políticas institucionales para fortalecer el eje de internacionalización.Diante da atual conjuntura marcada pela globalização, construir políticas conexas no âmbito internacional, através de cooperações entre instituições de ensino superior, configuram-se ações de caráter estratégico que corroboram com a missão universitária. A internacionalização das instituições de ensino superior é considerada, no tempo hodierno, uns dos quatro pilares da educação superior, juntamente com o ensino, a pesquisa e a extensão. Nessa perspectiva, o presente artigo tem como objetivo principal analisar a confluência entre o processo de internacionalização da Universidade Estadual da Paraíba – UEPB e a participação do seu corpo docente nesse fenômeno. A metodologia utilizada compreende uma abordagem quanti-qualitativa. Utilizamos como instrumento metodológico um questionário on line, construído conforme os conceitos abordados no referencial teórico, que foi disponibilizado no site da referida instituição no período de 28 de fevereiro a 31 de março de 2019, como também através das anotações coletadas nas visitas de observação realizadas nos oito campi que compõem a universidade. Essa pesquisa contou com a participação de 107 docentes da UEPB. Os resultados apontaram que o envolvimento dos professores da UEPB no processo de internalização da instituição ainda é incipiente, necessitando assim de uma maior mobilização da comunidade acadêmica para o efetivo desenvolvimento de tal processo, bem como um esforço institucional para a ampliar e consolidar cooperações internacionais.
