Resumo: This article intends to assess some urban and domestic spacetransformations in late 19th century São Paulo, associated with the homeand street consumption of food. The introduction of technologies like gasstove and the trajectory of coffee-houses, restaurants and renewed menusare outlined together with the urban transformation in the city, mainly thesanitary question associated with elite’s desire of modernization.
