THE PROFILE AND TRAJECTORY OF INDIGENOUS STUDENTS AT UFFS: expectations, enchantments and disenchantments: Expectativas, encantos e desencantos

Resumo: This text intends to present the profile of indigenous students who are enrolled and attending by the undergraduate courses at the Federal University of Fronteira Sul - UFFS and their perceptions about the selective admission processes, insertion at the university, permanence actions, academic performance, and the suggestions that they propose to qualify the Programa de Acesso e Permanência dos Povos Indígenas of the UFFS - PIN. For the production of the text, were used as analysis material the answers given by the indigenous students using a questionnaire applied to them, with the purpose of the construction the Second PIN evaluation report and the existing data in the Sistema de Gestão Acadêmica – SGA da UFFS. It is observed that indigenous students show great satisfaction because are studying at the university, but they face many challenges arising both from cultural issues and limitations arising from their economic and social condition. However, these students have overcome centuries of exclusion and neglect when arrived in higher education. The PIN represents an institutional effort by UFFS to strengthen this social group and establish itself as an entity that has a differentiated role in the regions in which it operates, providing opportunities for access and permanence in higher education unknown before its installation.

Para a produção do texto, utilizou-se como materiais de análise as respostas dadas pelos estudantes indígenas no questionário aplicado a eles para a construção do segundo relatório de avaliação do PIN e os dados existentes no Sistema de Gestão Acadêmica – SGA da UFFS. Observa-se que os estudantes indígenas demonstram uma satisfação muito grande em estarem na universidade, porém enfrentam muitos desafios provenientes tanto de questões culturais quanto de limitações decorrentes da sua condição econômica e social. Contudo, esses estudantes têm superado séculos de exclusão e esquecimento ao buscarem a educação superior.
