THE “EDUCATIONAL FORCE” OF TEACHING ASSOCIATIONS:: CONFERENCES AND ASSEMBLIES AS A TRAINING SPACE IN RIO DE JANEIRO (1919-1937)

Resumo: This paper analyzes the performance of the Rio de Janeiro Teachers' League from 1919 to 1937, considering this association as an “educational agency”, illuminated by the social history of education and the use of the press as a source. To this end, the study focuses on the conferences offered by the entity, understanding them as a space for teacher training, constituting also a vehicle of intellectual intertwining, which involved a network of teacher sociability. The association's performance is verified based on the staves discussed in the assemblies, which were published in the newspapers, taking their themes as a guideline of the teaching movement, in order to make it possible to visualize the debates that have reproduced and remained over time as unresolved issues, such as discussions about teachers' salaries.

À luz da história social da educação e pelo uso da imprensa como fonte, o presente trabalho analisa a atuação da Liga de Professores do Rio de Janeiro, entre os anos de 1919 a 1937, con- siderando essa associação como um “órgão educacional”. Para tanto, detém-se sobre as confe- rências oferecidas pela entidade, entendendo-as como um espaço de formação dos professores, constituindo-se, ainda, em um veículo de entrelaçamento intelectual, que envolveu uma rede de sociabilidade docente. Verifica-se a atuação da associação a partir das pautas discutidas nas as- sembleias, que eram publicadas nos jornais, tomando suas temáticas como diretriz do movimento docente, operação que possibilita visualizar os debates que se reproduziram e permaneceram ao longo do tempo como questões não resolvidas, a exemplo das discussões sobre o vencimento dos professores.
