The Relationship between Environmental Concerns and Willingness to Pay a Premium Price in Purchasing Intention for Industrialized Organic Foods

Resumo: | This study seeks to identify the relationship between environmental concerns and willingness to pay more for the purchase intention of industrialized organic foods in Brazilian consumers. This investigation is based on a quantitative approach with descriptive purposes. Data were obtained from an online questionnaire with closed survey-type questions, with a sample of 210 respondents. The results showed that the willingness to pay a premium price and the environmental concern impact directly and positively on the purchase intention of industrialized organic foods. Furthermore, environmental concern has a positive and direct impact on the willingness to pay a premium price. It can be concluded that price is an important criterion when choosing products; however, consumers associate organic foods, even industrialized ones, with health and lower environmental impacts. Therefore, the high price is not an impediment to buying these products. |

Esta investigación es basada en un enfoque cuantitativo con finalidades descriptivas. Los datos fueron obtenidos a partir de un cuestionario en línea con preguntas cerradas del tipo Survey, con una muestra de 210 respondientes. Los resultados enseñaron que la disposición para pagar un precio Premium y la preocupación ambiental tiene impacto directo y positivo en la intención de compra de alimentos orgánicos industrializados. Además, la preocupación ambiental tiene impacto positivo y directo en la disposición en pagar un precio Premium. Podemos concluir que el precio es un criterio importante a la hora de elegir un producto, sin embargo, los consumidores asocian alimentos orgánicos, aunque industrializados, a la salud y a impactos ambientales menores. Luego, el alto precio no es un impedimento para la compra de estos productos.Este estudo busca identificar a relação entre preocupação ambiental e disposição em pagar mais caro sobre a intenção de compra de alimentos orgânicos industrializados nos consumidores brasileiros. Esta investigação é pautada em uma abordagem quantitativa com fins descritivos. Os dados foram obtidos a partir de um questionário on-line com perguntas fechadas do tipo survey, com uma amostra de 210 respondentes. Os resultados mostraram que a disposição para pagar um preço premium e a preocupação ambiental têm impacto direto e positivo na intenção de compra de alimentos orgânicos industrializados. Ademais, a preocupação ambiental tem impacto positivo e direto na disposição em pagar um preço premium. Pode-se concluir que o preço é um critério importante na hora da escolha dos produtos, porém, os consumidores associam alimentos orgânicos, mesmo que industrializados, à saúde e a menores impactos ambientais.
