Resumo: This article analyzes the processes of appropriation of cultural heritage and the evaluation of such processes in daily life. In this sense, cultural heritage consists of spaces to social interaction, capable of representing the memory and identity of a community and citizens. However, it can be noticed that every passing day these spaces are losing any meaning to people living there and are also being forgotten. It is at this point when the social death of cultural heritage is declared, and its main role becomes an economic activity, and even worse, it is perceived as a handicap in dwellers’ lives, its patrimonial value being important only to experts. For this reason, it is necessary to generate educational processes of social reappropriation in which citizens reinforce symbolic values and change the uses and meanings of cultural heritage assets in daily life. Cultural heritage education is a way to construct cognitive and emotional bonds with cultural heritage, to encourage the involvement of local communities in the appreciation of material and immaterial heritage.

En tal sentido, los patrimonios culturales son espacio de interacción social, capaces de representar la memoria e identidad de una comunidad y de los ciudadanos. Sin embargo, cada día se observa que esos espacios pierden sentido para las personas que viven en el lugar y con el tiempo son olvidados. Es aquí cuando se le declara la muerte social al patrimonio cultural y su rol principal pasa a ser una actividad económica, o peor aún, se percibe como un obstáculo en las vidas de sus moradores y sus valores patrimoniales sólo importa a los especialistas. Por ello, es necesario generar procesos educativos de reapropiación social donde los ciudadanos fortalezcan los valores simbólicos y cambien los usos y significados de los bienes patrimoniales dentro de la vida cotidiana. La educación patrimonial es una vía para construir redes cognitivas y afectivas con el patrimonio y promover la participación de las comunidades locales en la valoración de su patrimonio material e inmaterial.Este artigo analisa o processo de apropriação do patrimônio cultural e do seu papel na vida diária, como a fundação de educação patrimonial. Nesse sentido, o património cultural são áreas de interação social, capazes de representar a memória e identidade de uma comunidade e dos cidadãos. No entanto, a cada dia observa-se que estes espaços se tornam sem sentido para as pessoas que vivem no lugar e eventualmente são esquecidos. Isto é, quando é declarada a morte social  do  patrimônio cultural e seu papel principal torna-se uma atividade económica, ou pior, ela é percebida como um obstáculo na vida dos seus habitantes e seus valores culturais assunto só para especialistas. É, portanto, necessário para gerar processos educativos de reapropriação social onde os cidadãos fortalecem os valores simbólicos e mudem os usos e significados dos ativos dentro da vida cotidiana.
