The relation between Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in adolescents and the seek for drugs

Objectives: To define adolescence, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), drugs and drug addiction and to verify if the existing literature on the subject points out that this disorder, in adolescents, leads to the search for drugs.Data sources: Narrative review in the databases SciELO and PePSIC, between the years of 2000 to 2015, since it is believed that these should contain the most updated research on the subject.Data synthesis: The 12 articles chosen should respect the inclusion criteria established by the authors regarding the year of publication, as well as address both ADHD, drugs and adolescence in their abstract, and can be written in both Portuguese and English. After a brief reading of these, a comparative table between the results of the articles was elaborated and analyzed by the researchers, who described what they found in the analysis and discussion of the results.Conclusion: There were divergent opinions regarding the relationship between ADHD and drug use in adolescence, and the articles found were divided into two main strands: one, which indicates that this pathology would be the cause of drug use and another, which advocates that the comorbidities associated with ADHD would lead to the use of substances.
