Resumo: Objective: To analyze the impact of Pilates practice on balance and postural strategies in the elderly.Materials and Methods: This is an intervention study, which included 14 el-derly, whose balance was assessed by Computerized Dynamic Posturography, including sensory organization tests (SOT), divided into six conditions, and postural strategies (condition I to VI) and neural systems that control balance (visual, vestibular and soma-tosensory) were analyzed. The elderly practiced Pilates exercises over 8 weeks, twice a week, for approximately 50 to 60 minutes. Results: There was an increase in the use of postural ankle strategies in the conditions: II (p = 0.04) and VI (p = 0.01), post intervention. However, SOT sensory conditions and neural systems that control balance did not change post intervention. Conclusions: The practice of the Pilates method contributed to the improvement of the use of postural strategies in the elderly and, consequently, can reduce the risk of falling in them. However, there was no significant difference on SOT and neural systems, and we suggest that a longer period of time is need to get more sig-nificant effects on these outcomes.

Universidade LaSalle - Unilasalle CanoasGomes, Thauana SilveiraLara, SimoneTeixeira, Lilian PintoTavares, Graziela Morgana Silva2020-06-03info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://revistas.unilasalle.edu.br/index.php/saude_desenvolvimento/article/view/667210.18316/sdh.v8i2.6672Saúde e Desenvolvimento Humano; v. 8, n. 2 (2020); p. 83-92Saúde e Desenvolvimento Humano; v. 8, n. 2 (2020); p. 83-922317-8582reponame:Saúde e Desenvolvimento Humanoinstname:Universidade La Salle (UNILASALLE)instacron:UNILASALLEporhttps://revistas.unilasalle.edu.br/index.php/saude_desenvolvimento/article/view/6672/pdfhttps://revistas.unilasalle.edu.br/index.php/saude_desenvolvimento/article/downloadSuppFile/6672/1380https://revistas.unilasalle.edu.br/index.php/saude_desenvolvimento/article/downloadSuppFile/6672/1381Direitos autorais 2020 Saúde e Desenvolvimento Humanoinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2022-03-31T11:42:59Zoai:ojs.revistas.unilasalle.edu.br:article/6672Revistahttp://www.revistas.unilasalle.edu.br/index.php/saude_desenvolvimentohttps://revistas.unilasalle.edu.br/index.php/saude_desenvolvimento/oaisdh@unilasalle.edu.br2317-85822317-8582opendoar:2022-03-31T11:42:59Saúde e Desenvolvimento Humano - Universidade La Salle (UNILASALLE)false
