Psychological aspects of mothers of children in cancer treatment

This article aims to identify, describe and analyze the psychological aspects of mothers of children with cancer, the treatment and/or terminal illness. The design is qualitative, descriptive, exploitative and transverse. The participants were six mothers (22 to 30 years old) submitted to the Term of Consent, Free and Clear, to the Socio-demographic and Clinical Questionnaire, to the coping Inventory, to the Scale of family dynamics and to the semi-structured interview questionnaire. It was felt that the experience of mothers is related to the history of life, to the bonds prior to the illness and to the type of coping. It was concluded that mothers with a good bond with their children, previous to the illness, provide coping with various adaptive responses to the situation and a better elaboration of the whole process of getting ill and terminal illness.
