Strength of forest, health and disease: the use of medicinal flora by the Parintintin people

Resumo: The article seeks to investigate the relationship of Parintintin people, self-styled Pykahu, inhabitant of Terra Indígena Nove de Janeiro, Humaitá municipality, Amazonas State, with the forest and the use of medicinal flora, based on their traditional knowledge, in the healing processes. The method is anchored in empiricism and oral reports produced by this original people. For that, was used techniques such as participant observation, oral history, semi-structured and informal interviews, among others. For the Parintintin the forest emanates health, from which they extract innumerable plant species used in the healing processes of the body and soul. To these are added those planted in backyards, in addition to the use of drugs. This way, new components if hybridise those specific of local culture, from the dialogue between non-indigenous (scientific and popular) and indigenous knowledge, that end up transforming and diversifying, adapting, but also imposing themselves, in order to ensure the health of this people.

El método está anclado en el empirismo y en los relatos orales producidos por este pueblo originario. Para eso, se utilizó técnicas como observación participante, historia oral, entrevistas semiestructuradas e informales, entre otras. Para los Parintintin el bosque emana salud, siendo que de ella extraen innumerables especies vegetales utilizadas en los procesos de curación del cuerpo y del alma. A estas se suman aquellas plantadas en patios traseros, además de la utilización de fármacos. De esta manera, nuevos componentes se hibridizan a aquellos propios de la cultura local, a partir del diálogo entre los saberes no indígenas (científico y popular) y  indígenas, que acaban transformándose y diversificándose, adaptándose, pero también imponiéndose, con el fin de garantizar la salud de este pueblo.O artigo busca investigar a relação do povo Parintintin, autodenominado Pykahu, habitante da Terra Indígena Nove de Janeiro, município de Humaitá, Estado do Amazonas, com a floresta e o uso da flora medicinal, a partir dos seus saberes tradicionais, nos processos de cura. O método se ancora no empirismo e nos relatos orais produzidos por esse povo originário. Para tanto, utilizou-se de técnicas como observação participante, história oral, entrevistas semiestruturadas e informais, dentre outras. Para os Parintintin a floresta emana saúde, sendo que dela extraem inúmeras espécies vegetais utilizadas nos processos de cura do corpo e da alma. A estas se somam aquelas plantadas em quintais, além da utilização de fármacos.
