Resumo: The Research and Development (RD) Projects developed by public universities haven’t a formal structure for its management. The deployment of Project Management Office – PMO introduces a project culture responsible for the management of enterprise, while researchers focus on scientific and technical aspects. In this context, this paper aims is to identify the main contributions of the PMO in management of projects implemented in a laboratory of RD of a Brazilian public university. Through the case study strategy, this research concludes that the PMO hasn’t only characteristic functions of project management, but also is responsible for ensuring compliance with formal aspects inherent in the public environment.

A implantação de Escritórios de Gerenciamento de Projetos – EGP introduz uma cultura de projetos responsável pela gestão dos empreendimentos enquanto os pesquisadores se concentram nos aspectos técnicos e científicos. Neste contexto, este relato técnico tem por objetivo identificar as principais contribuições do EGP no gerenciamento dos projetos implementados por um laboratório de pesquisa em uma universidade pública brasileira.
