Resumo: | BACKGROUND: In observing the social and economic impact of systemic arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus on the Brazilian population, in 2000 the Ministry of Health created the Hyperdensity and Diabetics Monitoring System, Hiperdia. Among Hiperdia’s actions, the practice of regular physical activities acts to reduce and control risk factors related to hypertension and diabetes. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the profile and physical activity of users of the Hiperdia program of Family Health Strategies (FHS) in the city of Olinda, State of Pernambuco. METHODS: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in family health units with hypertensive and/or diabetic users, registered and monitored in these programs. In data collection, a questionnaire with sociodemographic and behavioral data was used. To estimate the level of physical activity, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) was applied. RESULTS: Of the 230 interviewees, most of the sample consisted of women (80.9%), brown (56.5%), individuals with regular self-perceived health (61.7%) and with a very high cardiovascular risk (73.5%). The percentage of very active and active patients was 43%. The statistical tests performed found an association between the level of physical activity and the variables sex, education and self-perceived health. CONCLUSION: Cardiovascular risk was considered to be very high, despite the interviewees reporting a high level of physical activity. |
