Resumo: Since the 90’s, the international coffee market has undergone changes driven by the inclusion of Vietnam, Robusta coffee producer, which is less valued in the marketplace than the Natural and Mild Arabica types. These changes have raised questions about the behavior of buyers relative to the strategy of composition of coffees from different origins. This article sought to examine the relationship between prices of the three main varieties of coffee commercialized in order to provide evidence relative to companies' strategies regarding the use of coffees from different origins for the composition of blends. To this end, cointegration analysis was performed. It was observed that the result is consistent with the practices employed by the market, that is, companies tend to modify the blend according to the price differential, when considering two different types of origins. This strategy demonstrates the intense price competition which has significant impacts on coffee producers.
