Resumo: Given the importance of motivation for effective learning, many theories have been developed so as to unravel how the motivational process happens in educational environments Among them, the Self-Determination Theory stands out. This theory suggests the existence of six distinct motivational types which vary according to the level of autonomy or control exercised upon the behavior of individuals. In this context, the present paper consists of a descriptive research of quantitative approach and applied nature that aims to measure the correlation that exists between the ages of the students and the motivational types suggested by the Self-Determination Theory. The research was based on the participation of 191 students from three different majors of a local university. The results indicate that age plays a fundamental role in the motivated behavior of students. Their quality of motivation is significantly impaired as they age and advance towards the final stages of graduation

Entre elas, destaca-se a Teoria da Autodeterminação, a qual pressupõe a existência de seis tipos motivacionais que variam segundo o nível de autonomia ou controle exercido sobre o comportamento dos indivíduos. Neste contexto, o presente trabalho consiste em uma pesquisa descritiva, quantitativa e de natureza aplicada destinada a mensurar a correlação existente entre as idades dos discentes e os tipos motivacionais elencados pela Teoria da Autodeterminação. O estudo contou com a participação de 191 alunos oriundos de três cursos distintos de uma Instituição de Ensino Superior. Os resultados identificados sugerem que a idade desempenha um papel fundamental no comportamento motivado dos alunos. A qualidade de motivação dos discentes se deteriora significativamente à medida que envelhecem e avançam rumo às etapas finais de formação.Dada la importancia de la motivación para el aprendizaje efectivo, muchas teorias han sido desarolladas de manera a evidenciar como el proceso motivacional ocurre en ambientes educacionales. Entre ellas, la Teoría de la Autodeterminación se destaca. Esta teoría presupone la existencia de seis tipos motivacionales que varían según el nivel de autonomía o control ejercido sobre el comportamiento de los individuos. Así, este trabajo consiste en una investigación descriptiva, cuantitativa y de carácter aplicado que objetiva medir la correlación entre las edades de los estudiantes y los tipos de motivación apuntados por la Teoría de la Autodeterminación. El estudio tuvo la participación de 191 estudiantes de tres cursos de una institución de enseñanza superior. Los resultados identificados sugieren que la edad desempeña un papel fundamental en el comportamiento motivado de los alumnos.
