Resumo: | The entrance exam (vestibular) and the National Secondary Education Examination (Enem) constitute the main access systems to higher education in Brazil. In the History of Brazilian Education, the entrance exam appears in a very representative space-time and has been progressively replaced by Enem, which is not only presented as an entrance exam, but an important public policy of democratization to university education. In this sense, this article aims to reflect on the institution of the vestibular exam and its substitution by Enem, considering the historical, geographic and social context of its appearance as a selection system for entering Brazilian higher education. To this end, it undertakes the challenge of dialoguing past and present over a period of three centuries: 1750-2018. Initially, we used as interlocutors Santos and Cerqueira (2009), Seco and Amaral (2006), Cunha (2003), Fernandes (1980) and Souza (2006,) among other authors who helped us in proposing the arguments presented. For analysis purposes, we can conclude that the entrance exam and Enem are not inserted only in an educational system, but, above all, in the Brazilian political, economic and cultural context. |
