Resumo: Objectives: To know the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding, characterize dietary patterns of infants discharged from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Intermediate Unit in the first six months of life. Methods: Study carried out in a maternity hospital at usual risk located in the city of Aracaju-SE. The sample consisted of infants discharged from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Intermediate Unit. Data were collected from hospital discharge summaries and interviews conducted with caregivers during outpatient consultations. Results: The sample consisted of 85 infants. During hospitalization, exclusive breastfeeding was predominant 45 (52.33%), followed by mixed breastfeeding 30 (34.88%) and isolated infant formula 11 (12.79%). In the first month after discharge, 46 (53.49%) remained on exclusive breastfeeding. At six months of life, n (29.41%) of the children were being exclusively breastfed, 11 (26.83%) had started the introduction of food and n (28%) the addition of farinaceous in the dietary pattern. Conclusions: There was low adherence to exclusive breastfeeding. The predominance of infant formula and farinaceous before the sixth month in children. Métodos: Estudio realizado en una maternidad de riesgo ubicada en la ciudad de Aracaju-SE. La muestra estuvo constituida por lactantes dados de alta de la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatales y la Unidad Intermedia. Los datos se obtuvieron de los resúmenes de alta y las entrevistas. Resultados: La muestra estuvo constituida por 85 lactantes. Durante la hospitalización, predominó la lactancia materna exclusiva 45 (52,33%), seguida de la lactancia materna mixta 30 (34,88%) y la fórmula infantil aislada 11 (12,79%). En el primer mes después del alta, el 46 (53,49%) permaneció en lactancia materna exclusiva. A los seis meses de vida n el n (29,41%) de los niños estaban siendo amamantados exclusivamente, n el 11 (26,83%) había iniciado la introducción de alimentos y n el n (28%) la incorporación de farináceos a la dieta. Conclusiones: Hubo baja adherencia a la lactancia materna exclusiva. Es preocupante el predominio de fórmulas infantiles y farináceas antes del sexto mes. Métodos: estudo realizado em maternidade de risco localizada em Aracaju-SE. A amostra foi constituída de lactentes egressas nas Unidades de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal e Intermediária. Os dados foram coletados dos resumos de alta e de entrevistas. Resultados: compõem a amostra 85 lactentes. Durante a internação, predominou o aleitamento materno exclusivo 45 (52,33%), aleitamento misto 30 (34,88%) e fórmulas infantis isoladas 11 (12,79%). No primeiro mês após a alta, 46 (53,49%) permaneceram em aleitamento materno exclusivo. Aos seis meses de vida, n (29,41%) recebiam aleitamento materno exclusivo, 11 (26,83%) iniciaram a introdução alimentar e n (28%) a adição de farináceos. Conclusões: houve baixa adesão ao aleitamento materno exclusivo.
