Resumo: The article intends to analyze the public health service in the prison environment and, in particular, to allow reflection on possible deficiencies. The work will bring the legal foundations and the scope of the public health service in prison system, emphasizing the Federal Constitution of 1988, LEP, among other specific laws. The specificities in relation to the prison population will be analyzed, highlighting the most frequent diseases in the prison environment and questions about the health of women in prison. The deductive method and bibliographic research in scientific journals, doctrine and pertinent legislation were used. The demands increase as the prison population grows and there are challenges to be overcome. In order for the State to minimally meet the demands of human dignity through public health services serving women in prison, it will have to adopt policies and practices that effectively face the problem in a proactive and not just reactive way.
