Resumo: The sense formation through the understanding is the main objective of the reading and several factors interfere in this process. This article intends to establish relationships between reading and understanding, presenting the main factors involved in the understanding reader of a specific gender, newspaper news. The journalistic news, for it social purpose, possess own characteristics of organization that interfere in the understanding for the reader. We indicated the importance of this study as resource to make possible the teacher, in the work involving newspaper reading in the class room, a reflection more deepened on forms of to facilitate the understanding reader of the gender news and to recognize the causes of the difficulties appeared during this process.

Esse artigo se propõe a estabelecer relações entre a leitura e compreensão, apresentando os principais fatores envolvidos na compreensão leitora de um gênero específico, a notícia de jornal. As notícias jornalísticas, por sua finalidade social, possuem características próprias de organização que interferem na compreensão pelo leitor.
