Resumo: The study seeks to identify and analyze the relationship between strategic type and environmental management practices adopted by Brazilian footwear export companies. Based on the analysis it was not possible to conclude, confirming initial assumptions, that the environmental management practices adopted by Brazilian companies of the footwear sector are associated with the strategic profile. Regarding the relationship between strategic type and environmental management practices, correlation tests confirm the existence of association among the variable: strategic profile, family assistance and environmental education for employees. Among the environmental practices analyzed were the investments made in family assistance and environmental education that differentiate the groups of companies. Additionally, the correspondence analysis showed that the prospector’s companies strongly invest in environmental aspects rather than in social aspects, probably because this type of investment give them greater competitiveness in the market. The data show a greater concern with aspects related to internal management. Environmental management despite its importance for business competitiveness is not yet present in the strategic management of most Brazilian companies. The average level of social investment is not yet considered a factor of influence in entrepreneurial action.

Edunisc - Universidade de Santa Cruz do Sul2009-11-17info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://online.unisc.br/seer/index.php/redes/article/view/90710.17058/redes.v14i2.907Redes ; Vol. 14 No. 2 (2009); 103-121Redes; Vol. 14 Núm. 2 (2009); 103-121Redes; Vol. 14 No. 2 (2009); 103-121Redes; v. 14 n. 2 (2009); 103-1211982-6745reponame:Redes (Santa Cruz do Sul.
