Resumo: This paper aims to explore the conversational uses of the Facebook tools “share”, “like” and “comment”, as well as their effects on the social capital and the social networks, based on Goff - man’s (1967) idea of “face”. The discussion is based on an empirical case study with 20 interviews and a survey with 300 users and focuses on facework as a consequence of the negotiations for conversational usages of these tools. Our results show that the intersection of networks promoted by these practices have an effect on facework, elevating the perception of risk for face-threatening acts which, sometimes, may be sufficient cause for the actors to decide not to interact, which also may reduce the tool’s value for social networks. Keywords: computer mediated conversation, facework, social networks, social capital.

Verso e Reverso2014-06-07info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/versoereverso/article/view/ver.2014.28.68.0610.4013/ver.2014.28.68.06Verso e Reverso; v. 28 n. 68: Ano XXVIII - 2014/2; 117-1271806-6925reponame:Verso e Reverso (Online)instname:Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS)instacron:UNISINOSporhttps://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/versoereverso/article/view/ver.2014.28.68.06/4187Recuero, Raquelinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2014-09-03T17:53:27Zoai:ojs2.revistas.unisinos.br:article/7323Revistahttp://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/versoereversoPRIhttp://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/versoereverso/oaiperiodicos@unisinos.br||bmarocco@unisinos.br1806-69250103-1414opendoar:2014-09-03T17:53:27Verso e Reverso (Online) - Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS)false
