Resumo: In this article, we bring the Salem TV series to analyze elements of witchcraft used as part of the plot construction. To do so, we adopt a qualitative approach and develop a comparative analysis that take into account the following aspects: witches in Salem; the divinity of the witches; the transmission of wizarding knowledge; the family members and the witch mark; the Sabbath, the night flights and the magical objects. The practices and representations of witchcraft embodied in the episodes of the series reveal far more approximations than distances in regard to aspects considered real by practitioners of both traditional and modern witchcraft, as well as the inquisitorial reports during the highest hunting period witches, between the years 1560 and 1660.Keywords: Salem, witchcraft, television fiction.

Verso e Reverso2017-12-31info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/versoereverso/article/view/ver.2018.32.79.0410.4013/ver.2018.32.79.04Verso e Reverso; v. 32 n. 79 (2018); 34-451806-6925reponame:Verso e Reverso (Online)instname:Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS)instacron:UNISINOSporhttps://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/versoereverso/article/view/ver.2018.32.79.04/60746088Carvalho, Isabel Cristine Machado deRocha Neto, Manoel Pereira dainfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2018-04-18T19:17:46Zoai:ojs2.revistas.unisinos.br:article/12528Revistahttp://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/versoereversoPRIhttp://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/versoereverso/oaiperiodicos@unisinos.br||bmarocco@unisinos.br1806-69250103-1414opendoar:2018-04-18T19:17:46Verso e Reverso (Online) - Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS)false
