THE POSTPONEMENT STRATEGY: MOTIVATIONS AND FACTORS THAT FAVOR ITS ADOPTION IN FOOD AGROINDUSTRIES

Resumo: | The objectives of this article are to characterize the strategy of postponement, to describe its application in a food processing agroindustry and to identify, from literature review and case study, motivations, benefits and favorable factors for its adoption by the segment investigated. The case study was developed in a food processing company, in the interior of the state of São Paulo. It was concluded that the main motivations for adopting the postponement strategy are: seasonality of the raw material, uncertainty regarding the variation in the specifications of the demanded products, economy of scale and cost of production and storage. |

La investigación se desarrolló a través de un estudio de caso en una empresa de procesamiento de alimentos en el estado de Sao Paulo. Se podría concluir que las motivaciones principales para la adopción de esta estrategia en la empresa son: la estacionalidad de las materias primas; la incertidumbre sobre la variación de las características de los productos demandados; las economías de escala; y los costos de producción y de almacenamiento.Constituem objetivos deste artigo, caracterizar a estratégia de postponement ou postergação, descrever sua aplicação em uma agroindústria processadora de alimentos e identificar, a partir de revisão da literatura e de estudo de caso, motivações, benefícios e fatores favoráveis para sua adoção pelo segmento investigado. O estudo de caso foi desenvolvido em empresa processadora de alimentos, no interior do estado de São Paulo.
