Resumo: This text aims to analyze, from the perspective of the History of Mathematics Education, the arithmetic instructions present in the work Escola Nova, Christã, e Politica, Na qual se ensinão os primeiros rudimentos, que deve saber o Menino Christão, e se lhes dão regras para com facilidade, e em pouco tempo aprender a ler, escrever e contar.  Originally published in Portugal in 1756, the work by Francisco Luiz Ameno (1713-1793) was registered under the pseudonym of D. Leonor Thomasia de Sousa e Silva. This manual was one of the first printed educational works in Portuguese America. Printed in Bahia in 1813, the treatise contained numerous prescriptions, interrelated to Christian precepts, considered necessary for the complete mastery of letters, numbers and the Portuguese language. In this sense, this research focuses on identifying how the author of the work privileged certain mathematical knowledge, highlighting the methodological instructions used in the construction of the number.

Leonor Thomasia de Sousa e Silva. Este manual fue una de las primeras obras educativas impresas en la América portuguesa. El año 1813, el tratado traía innumerables prescripciones interrelacionadas a los preceptos cristianos, consideradas necesarias para el completo dominio de las letras, de los números y de la lengua portuguesa. En ese sentido, esta investigación se centra en identificar cómo el autor de la obra privilegió determinados conocimientos matemáticos, destacándosele las instrucciones metodológicas utilizadas en la construcción del número.  Este texto tem por objetivo analisar, sob a perspectiva da História da Educação Matemática, as instruções aritméticas presentes na obra Escola Nova, Christã, e Politica, Na qual se ensinão os primeiros rudimentos, que deve saber o Menino Christão, e se lhes dão regras para com facilidade, e em pouco tempo aprender a ler, escrever e contar. Publicado inicialmente em Portugal no ano de 1756, o texto de autoria de Francisco Luiz Ameno (1713-1793) foi registrado sob o pseudônimo de D. Leonor Thomasia de Sousa e Silva. Este manual foi uma das primeiras obras educacionais impressas na América portuguesa. Impresso na Bahia em 1813, o tratado trazia inúmeras prescrições inter-relacionadas aos preceitos cristãos, consideradas necessárias ao completo domínio das letras, dos números e da língua portuguesa.
