Resumo: Understanding that literacy must be significant, relevant and happen as a process that is inseparable from the social construction of reading and writing practices, in this article, we aim to answer: what are P. Freire's main considerations about literacy and the relationship between literacy and reading the world? We aim to present the main ideas of emancipatory literacy, from the Freirean perspective. This is a theoretical and documental study, considering writings by P. Freire and scholars of his thought on literacy and documents available in the Paulo Freire collection of the Instituto and Memorial Paulo Freire. It is concluded that P. Freire's pedagogy drives us to understand that language and reality are dynamically linked. Reading and writing, texts, words, letters, cannot mean a break with the “reading” of the world.

Freire sobre la alfabetización y la relación entre alfabetización y lectura del mundo? Nuestro objetivo es presentar las principales ideas de la alfabetización emancipadora, desde la perspectiva freireana. Se trata de un estudio teórico y documental, considerando escritos de P. Freire y estudiosos de su pensamiento sobre alfabetización y documentos disponibles en el acervo Paulo Freire del Instituto y Memorial Paulo Freire. Se concluye que la pedagogía de P. Freire nos impulsa a comprender que lenguaje y realidad están vinculados dinámicamente. Leer y escribir, textos, palabras, letras, no pueden significar una ruptura con la “lectura” del mundo.Compreendendo que a alfabetização deve ser significativa, relevante e acontecer como um processo que é inseparável da construção social das práticas de leitura e de escrita, neste artigo, objetivamos responder: quais as principais considerações de P. Freire sobre a alfabetização e a relação entre letramento e leitura de mundo? Temos como objetivo, apresentar as principais ideias de alfabetização emancipadora, na perspectiva Freireana. Trata-se de estudo teórico e documental, considerando escritos de P. Freire e estudiosos do seu pensamento sobre a alfabetização e documentos disponíveis no acervo Paulo Freire do Instituto e do Memorial Paulo Freire. Conclui-se que a pedagogia de P. Freire nos impulsiona a compreender que linguagem e realidade se prendem dinamicamente.
