Resumo: A public policy is accomplished with the active participation of the state and the civil society, which often creates struggle and resistance. Regarding the education for people living in the countryside, advances have been obtained by social movements. The Agricultural Family Schools (AFS) are examples of how the organized participation of a population can create new political scenario and the necessary conditions for the development of the region. Based on data collected in loco, by means of interviews and observation, this article presents the process of implementation of two AFS, in the Bico do Papagaio Territory in Tocantins (PBT), a region with a history of struggle for land, and consequently, a culture of organization and resistance. One of the AFS was inaugurated in 2016, after many mishaps. The other remains as a goal to be achieved.

The other remains as a goal to be achieved.
