Resumo: The goal of this study is to present an approach on the tourism environmental impacts, considering a close look at factors and consequences caused to environment and therefore sought, through a literature review and field, analyze the perception of community about tourism environmental impacts on the beach of “Farol”, Ilha de Cotijuba, at Belém/PA. Therefore, showed theoretical topics as environmental impact, environment, tourism activities, relating them to preservation and environmental degradation. It was applied in the community searched a questionnaire, which resulted in the realization that tourism should be explored from sustainability criteria and that both the community and visitors, should be addressed by the municipal government for a project environmental education, aimed at valuing and respecting local biodiversity. It was concluded: the importance of applying planning criteria of sustainable tourism in the area searched in order to minimize environmental impacts caused by tourism.

It was concluded: the importance of applying planning criteria of sustainable tourism in the area searched in order to minimize environmental impacts caused by tourism.O objetivo deste estudo é expor uma abordagem sobre os impactos ambientais decorrentes da atividade turística, considerando-se um olhar mais atento sobre os fatores e consequências geradas ao meio ambiente e, assim, buscou, através de pesquisa bibliográfica e de campo, analisar a percepção da comunidade sobre impactos ambientais da atividade turística na Praia do “Farol”, Ilha de Cotijuba, em Belém/PA. Expõe, portanto, o referencial teórico sobre temas como impacto ambiental, meio ambiente, atividades turísticas e sua relação com a preservação e degradação ambiental. Aplicou-se na comunidade pesquisada um questionário, que resultou na constatação de que a atividade turística deve ser explorada a partir de critérios de sustentabilidade e que, tanto a comunidade quanto os visitantes, deveriam ser contemplados, pelo poder público municipal, por um projeto de educação ambiental, visando à valorização e o respeito à biodiversidade local.
