Concepts and Models in Tourism: a development from reductionism to tourism systems

Resumo: The objective of this article is to stimulate reflection on the tourism phenomenon, in the light of the systemic approach, gathering in a single text, references from various theorists in the area. Initially, it deals with some aspects of systemic thought. Next, it gives a brief historical context of the emergence of the tourism concept. It then gives various definitions of the tourism phenomenon, from authors of different streams of thought, classifying them according to the emphases given to them, in the reductionist or holistic paradigms of our western science. Finally, it shows some models of tourism systems that have been developed, emphasizing the importance of the holistic vision and systemic analysis for tourism academics. Inicialmente, trataremos de algunos aspectos del pensamiento sistémico. A la secuencia, se realizará un breve encuadramiento histórico del surgimiento del concepto de turismo. Adelante, transcribiremos diversas definiciones del fenómeno turístico de autores de varias corrientes, clasificándolas de acuerdo con la énfasis conferida a esas, en los paradigmas reduccionista u holístico de nuestra ciencia occidental. Por último, mostraremos algunos modelos de sistemas turísticos elaborados hasta este presente momento, enfatizando la importancia de la visión oolítica y del análisis sistémico para los estudiosos del turismo. Palabras clave: Turismo; Reduccionismo; Holismo; Sistemas turísticos.O objetivo do artigo é gerar uma reflexão sobre o fenômeno turístico à luz da abordagem sistêmica, agregando em um só texto referências de diversos teóricos da área. Inicialmente, trataremos de alguns aspectos do pensamento sistêmico. Em seguida, será realizado um breve enquadramento histórico do surgimento do conceito de turismo. Adiante, transcrevermos diversas definições do fenômeno turístico de autores de diversas correntes, classificando-as, de acordo com a ênfase conferida a essas, nos paradigmas reducionista ou holístico de nossa ciência ocidental. Por fim, mostraremos alguns modelos de sistemas turísticos elaborados até o presente momento, enfatizando a importância da visão holística e da análise sistêmica para os estudiosos do turismo.
