Competencies of Hotel Entrepreneurs: a study based on the Oral History method

Resumo: The research was based on theoretical reflections which recognize a dynamic vision of the phenomenon of entrepreneurialism, viewing the individual entrepreneur as being at the center of the process. From the dynamic perspective of competence, i.e., competence as a result of the professional’s action, this study seeks to analyze the configuration of Entrepreneurial Competencies of the hotel sector, based on the historical reconstruction of the professional’s work experience and practice at the helm of the company. The qualitative investigation strategy used was Oral History, carried out using interviews with entrepreneurs in the hotel sector. The configuration of competencies and the knowledge mobilized for their expression were structured according to the definition of three analytical categories: Competencies related to the business and its context; competencies related to the management of the business; and competencies related to the personal characteristics of the business owner. The identification and definition of the competencies constructed in the narratives of the subjects’ life histories demonstrate the link between the constructs competence of the business owner and entrepeneurial opportunities, mediated by the emergence of critical events or complex situations faced by the subjects. Bajo la perspectiva dinámica de la competencia como resultado de la acción del profesional, el objetivo del estudio fue analizar la configuración de las competências emprendedoras del sector hotelero a partir de la reconstrucción histórica de experiencias de trabajo y de la actuación de los sujetos que dirigen el emprendimiento. La estrategia de la investigación cualitativa fue la historia oral, mediada por entrevistas realizadas con emprendedores del sector hotelero. La configuración de las competencias y de los saberes movilizados para su expresión fue estructurada según la definición de tres categorías analíticas, las competencias em relación a las características personales del emprendedor, las competencias relativas a la gestión del emprendimiento y las competencias relacionadas al emprendimento y su contexto. La identificación y la definición de las competências construídas en las narraciones de la historia de vida demostraron el vínculo entre los constructos competencia del emprendedor y oportunidades emprendedoras, mediados por el surgimiento de los eventos críticos o situaciones complejas enfrentadas por los sujetos. Palabras clave: Sector hotelero - Individuo emprendedor - Competencias emprendedoras.A pesquisa partiu de reflexões teóricas que preconizam uma visão dinâmica do fenômeno do empreendedorismo e percebem o indivíduo empreendedor no centro do processo. Sob a perspectiva dinâmica da competência, da competência como resultado da ação do profissional, o objetivo do estudo foi analisar a configuração das competências empreendedoras do setor hoteleiro a partir da reconstrução histórica de experiências de trabalho e da atuação dos sujeitos à frente do empreendimento. A estratégia da investigação qualitativa foi a história oral, mediada por entrevistas realizadas com empreendedores do setor hoteleiro. A configuração das competências e dos saberes mobilizados para sua expressão foi estruturada segundo a definição de três categorias analíticas, as competências quanto às características pessoais do empreendedor, as competências relativas à gestão do empreendimento e as competências relacionadas ao empreendimento e seu contexto. A identificação e a definição das competências construídas nas narrativas da história de vida demonstraram a vinculação entre os construtos competência do empreendedor e oportunidades empreendedoras, mediados pelo surgimento dos eventos críticos ou situações complexas enfrentadas pelos sujeitos.
