Construction of Knowledge on the Tourist Experience: A systematized literature review using the PROKNOW-C method

Resumo: | In view of the diversity of approaches to the concept of the tourist experience, we aim to demonstrate and characterize trends in research streams, through a systematized review of the international scientific literature using the PROKNOW-C methodological procedure to create and analyze of bibliographic portfolios. For this, we explored three axes that support the construct of the tourist experience in the field of contemporary tourism studies: a humanistic axis, oriented towards sociocultural interpretation and criticism; an economic-administrative axis, which emphasizes marketing and management studies of consumer experiences; and a third axis, which focuses predominantly on cognitive and behavioral aspects, emphasizing memory and the dimensions of the experience. We conclude that although there are ramifications of studies on the tourist experience,these groups constitute thematic axes that present areas of overlap in their approaches. Thus, we infer that recent advances in the study of the tourist experience show hybridizations in their research streams and ontological, epistemological, theoretical and methodological foundations, making the object of study highly. |

Thus, we infer that recent advances in the study of the tourist experience show hybridizations in their research streams and ontological, epistemological, theoretical and methodological foundations, making the object of study highly.Delante de la diversidad de abordajes sobre el concepto de la experiencia turística, nos proponemos evidenciar y caracterizar tendencias en las corrientes de investigación a partir de una revisión sistematizada de la literatura científica internacional utilizando el procedimiento metodológico PROKNOW-C para la conformación y análisis exploratorio de porfolios bibliográficos. Para eso, exploramos tres ejes que sustentan el constructo de la experiencia turística en el campo de los estudios turísticos contemporáneos: uno humanístico, orientando hacia la interpretación y la crítica sociocultural; otro económico-administrativo, que enfatiza los procesos de marketing y gestión de experiencias de consumo; y un tercero con predominio de aspectos cognitivos y comportamentales, enfatizando la memoria y el contexto de la experiencia. Concluimos que, si bien existen ramificaciones de los estudios sobre la experiencia turística, estos conjuntos se configuran a partir de ejes temáticos que presentan zonas de contacto en sus abordajes. A partir de esto inferimos que avances recientes en el estudio de la experiencia turística evidencian hibridaciones en sus corrientes y fundamentos teóricos, ontológicos y epistemológicos, las cuales complejizan al objeto de estudio y denotan esfuerzos en superar reduccionismos conceptuales.Diante da diversidade de abordagens sobre o conceito da experiência turística, pretendemos evidenciar e caracterizar tendências nas correntes de pesquisa, a partir de uma revisão sistematizada da literatura científica internacional, utilizando o procedimento metodológico PROKNOW-C para a conformação e análise exploratória de portfólios bibliográficos. Para isso, exploramos três eixos que sustentam o construto da experiência turística no campo dos estudos turísticos contemporâneos: um humanístico, orientado à interpretação e à crítica sociocultural; outro econômico-administrativo, que enfatiza os estudos de marketing e gestão de experiências de consumo; e um terceiro, com predomínio dos aspectos cognitivos e comportamentais, enfatizando a memória e as dimensões da experiência. Concluímos que, embora haja ramificações dos estudos sobre a experiência turística, esses conjuntos se configuram a partir de eixos temáticos que apresentam zonas de contato em suas abordagens.
