The education of racial relations in the curriculum: the Licensee Courses in Geography in Santa Catarina

Resumo: | Geography as a field of knowledge contributes to the empowerment of individuals to construct their identity and their positioning and agency in the world. Thus, the discussion about race relations is essential for the perception of the need for structural changes in Brazilian society and to understand the urban segregation, the right to land and the social and economic dynamics of the population. Considering these aspects, the article analyzes the curricula of undergraduate courses in Geography of five Higher Education Institutions located in the State of Santa Catarina, seeking to understand how the racial issues in these courses are presented. Taking into account that these undergraduate programs aim at the qualification of teachers of basic education, we also analyze the legal texts that regulate the qualification of teachers in Brazil, as well as Geography and those that interpret and complement Law n. 10.639/03 regarding its application in order to observe the adequacy of the Geography courses. Based on the analyzed data, it was observed that although the current legislation and its curricular norms have assimilated in the body of their texts the racial issues as structuring and educational principles, the presence of knowledge and the discussion about them is still timid in these courses, which are, for the most part, fulfilling the minimum required by law. |

De este modo, la discusión sobre las relaciones raciales es esencial para la percepción de la necesidad de cambios estructurales en la sociedad brasileña y para la comprensión de la segregación urbana, del derecho a la tierra y las dinámicas sociales y económicas de la población. Considerando estos aspectos, el artículo analiza los currículos de cursos de Licenciatura en Geografía de cinco Instituciones de Enseñanza Superior ubicadas en el Estado de Santa Catarina, buscando percibir de qué manera se presentan las cuestiones raciales en esos cursos. Teniendo en cuenta que las Licenciaturas tienen como objetivo la formación de profesores de la educación básica, realizamos también un análisis de los textos legales que normalizan la formación de profesores en Brasil, así como de la Geografía y los que interpretan y complementan la Ley n. 10.639/03 en lo que se refiere a la aplicación de la misma buscando observar la adecuación de los cursos de Geografía. A partir de los datos analizados, se percibió que aunque la legislación actual y sus normativas curriculares han asimilado en el cuerpo de sus textos las cuestiones raciales como estructurantes y principios educativos, la presencia de conocimientos y la discusión sobre éstas todavía es tímida en esos cursos, que en su mayoría, cumpliendo el mínimo exigido por la ley.A Geografia como campo de conhecimento contribui para o empoderamento dos sujeitos para a construção de sua identidade e de seu posicionamento e atuação no mundo. Desse modo, a discussão sobre as relações raciais é essencial para a percepção da necessidade de mudanças estruturais na sociedade brasileira e para a compreensão da segregação urbana, do direito à terra e das dinâmicas sociais e econômicas da população. Considerando esses aspectos, o artigo analisa os currículos de cursos de Licenciatura em Geografia de cinco Instituições de Ensino Superior localizadas no Estado de Santa Catarina, procurando perceber de que maneira se apresentam as questões raciais nesses cursos. Considerando que as licenciaturas têm como objetivo a formação de professores da educação básica, realizamos também uma análise dos textos legais que normatizam a formação de professores no Brasil, bem como da Geografia e os que interpretam e complementam a Lei n. 10.639/03 no que se refere a sua aplicação, buscando observar a adequação dos cursos de Geografia.
