Resumo: The consensus that football is one of the most present contents in Physical Education classes does not always applies when referring to female practice. This study aims to present the perspective of High School female students on their interest in practicing football in Physical Education classes in state public schools in the town of Santa Cruz do Rio Pardo-SP. A questionnaire containing open questions and partially open questions was administered to 47 participants. Referential assumptions from Bernard Charlot's theory of Relation to Knowledge were used in order to provide theoretical understanding on the subject. Data analysis was performed using both content and quantitative analysis, describing the absolute and relative frequencies. The results indicate that 70% of the participants had had experiences with sports at school. Concerning interest in practicing, positive feelings like liking, finding it nice and interesting were the main reasons pointed out, while negative feelings, such as disliking and not finding it pleasant, besides boys resistance on accepting them and lack of other female practitioners were pointed out as reasons that lead them to disinterest. It is concluded that intrinsic and extrinsic aspects influence the participation of female students in practicing football during Physical Education classes, and the teacher can access, by logic, only the extrinsic factors. Therefore, it is important to work this content at school and encourage girls to practice either in mixed or exclusively female classes, so that they can build meanings and assign greater or lesser value to the modality in their lives.
