Resumo: | The aim of this study was to evaluate the microtensile bond strength of the adesive interface of resin cements (conventional and self-adhesive) to resin composite cores submitted to different surface treatments, at 24 hours and 6 months after the bonding procedure. Fifty-six Filtek Z350 resin blocks, simulating resin composite cores, were prepared and divided into 4 groups according to the surface treatment: Group 1 (control): no surface treatment; Group 2: 37% phosphoric acid; Group 3: 37% phosphoric acid followed by application of silane; Group 4: 37% phosphoric acid followed by the application of Adper Single Bond 2 adhesive system and photoactivation. Two resin cements were used for the adhesion of the Resilab laboratorial resin to the Filtek Z350 resin block, RelyX ARC conventional resin cement and RelyX U200 self-adhesive resin cement (n = 7). Samples were stored in distilled water at 37°C for 24 hours and subsequently sectioned into beams measuring approximately 1.0 x 1.0 mm. Half of the specimens were used for the bond strength evaluation after 24 hours and the other half after six months of the bonding procedure. For RelyX ARC, the group that received the application of phosphoric acid + adhesive had the lowest bond strength values, as well as for RelyX U200. Comparing the periods of time, there were statistically difference for resin cement RelyX ARC in the group receiving the application of phosphoric acid, which the values after 6 months were higher than those obtained after 24 hours. There was no difference between the two resin cements studied. The application of the adhesive on the resin composite core, after acid etching, should be avoided. The facility and fast application of simple protocols, such as the core cleaning with phosphoric acid seems to be a clinically viable alternative |
