This work deals with school psychology as a broad area that is in the process of development and interfaces between psychology and education. The theoretical-methodological conceptions that guide professional practice in the field of school psychology are diverse, according to the perspectives of Psychology as an area of knowledge, aiming to understand the subjective dimensions of the human being focused on intervention in practice. The psychologist inserted in the school is responsible for the promotion of the mental health of the same, acting along with all the members that are part of the school (the students, the educators and the family). Their performance is not restricted only in solving problems, but also in developing work aimed at preventing them. Through a qualitative research, aiming at a bibliographical survey, it can be affirmed that the school psychologist, through his training, uses psychological methods and techniques to improve the quality and efficiency of the educational process aiming at the promotion of mental health in school
