This work provides data and the experience report from 2014 promoted by the Extension Project "Blog do Departamento de Ciências Biológicas – FCLA – UNESP: um canal aberto à sociedade", linked to the Departamento de Ciências Biológicas, Faculdade de Ciências e Letras de Assis (FCLA), UNESP. The main objective was the development of a Blog (daily) for dissemination of several teaching-research-extension activities performed in, and by, Departamento de Ciências Biológicas da FCL-Assis. The Department’s Blog (http://www.cbi-assis.com/) was implemented in January 2014 with the assistance of Blogger platform, by a team consisted by two teachers, a technical and administrative officer and three undergraduate students from Biological Sciences and Biotechnological Engineering courses. During the every week staff meetings, daily posts were created, selected and edited. Posts brought information about scientific research activities and/or technological, events, research lines, scientific projects and extension, vacancies internships or news of interest to the university community and society derived from the Departamento de Ciências Biológicas, FCLA. The posts were published on Facebook and access analyzed in Blogger and Google Analytics statistics tools. In 2014, 201 posts were received national 42318 visits (86.7%) and international (13.3%). The pages and profile established on Facebook intensified the views and the integration of the Blog of the Department’s Blog with other Educational Institutions, other extension projects and with the external community, which is constituted about 48% of the blog readers. The Department’s Blog proved to be an excellent dissemination environment, interaction between students, teachers and external community. We concluded that the Department's Blog was effective as extension project improving communication of the academic community with the external community in a transparent and credibility ways.
