Resumo: | The Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a genetic parental disease caused by the absence of gene expression of the 15 chromosome (q11.2-q13) in a region controlled by the genomic imprinting. Physical, cognitive and behavioral changes as a severe neonatal hypotonia, delay on the global development, intellectual deficiency, deficiency on the growth hormone, behavior problems, hyperphagia and obesity, put the PWS people in death risk, and generates a high degree of physical and emotional stress on the family. The physical activity (PA) has claimed as an important tool of intervention against numerous pathologies and studies have shown its beneficial effects on PWS. There is no synthesized data as the health condition of people who have PWS in Brazil, and no information about the regular practice of physical activity for them. So, the present study objective was to evaluate the physical activity level held by a sample of 30 PWS people and their possible relation by physical health, behavioral profile and familiar life quality. This transverse descriptive study interviewed PWS 30 people parents, between 10 months and 21 years old, both sexes, and cytogenetic diagnoses confirming the PWS. Tools used during the interviews were: demographic questionary, exercise questionary, and medical history at the Prader-Willi Syndrome; Brief Problem Monitor - BPM (to identify the behavioral profile) and WHOQoL (to identify the life quality). The most important results pointed that the socioeconomic condition is associated to the bigger life quality at the social field. Besides, the study shows that the little the behavioral life problems are the bigger the parents’ life quality are at the social field. Furthermore, it was possible to identify an association that was different from the expected, where the higher the level of physical exercises, the lower the life quality of parents at the social field, very likely to the time that they exempt to follow the physical activity. We can conclude that the results reinforce the importance of considering the family at the treatment of PWS people, just as well as the prevention of the main characteristics and symptoms of the syndrome. |

We can conclude that the results reinforce the importance of considering the family at the treatment of PWS people, just as well as the prevention of the main characteristics and symptoms of the syndrome.
