Resumo: Individuals with developmental disorder often present behavioral problems in various degrees of severity. The most frequent are gestural, verbal and body stereotypies, self-aggressiveness, irritability, hetero-aggressiveness and disruptive behaviors. Early identification of such problems allows preventive and/or remedial interventions aimed at reducing damages in the social-adaptive functioning. In Brazil, there is a lack of standardized tools to assess behavioral problems in people with atypical development. The objective of this study was to verify the psychometric properties of validity and reliability of the Brazilian version of the Behavior Problems Inventory (BPI-01). The sample was composed of 130 individuals aged from 3 to 19 years, of both sexes. A clinical group was composed of 100 individuals with atypical development (Autism Spectrum Disorder – ASD, Williams Syndrome – WS, Down Syndrome – DS and intellectual disability – ID). The control group, paired by age and sex, was composed of 30 individuals without developmental disorder and with preserved cognitive skills. The caretakers from both groups have also taken part in the study. Data collection tools were the Brazilian version of the Behavioral Problems Inventory (BPI-01), the Child Behavior Checklist for Ages 6-18 (CBCL/6-18), the Child Behavior Checklist for ages 1½-5 (CBCL/1½-5), the Adult Behavior Checklist for ages 18-59 (ABCL/18-59), the Aberrant Behavior Checklist (ABC) and the Autistic Behavior Checklist (ICA). Results indicate higher mean frequencies in the three subscales of BPI-01 for the clinic group with atypical development. Internal consistency indicators among BPI-01 items, assessed through Cronbach’s alpha, reached 0,65 for self-aggressive behaviors, 0,92 for stereotyped behaviors and 0,82 for aggressive/destructive behaviors. The ROC curve method (Receiver Operating Characteristic) was used, with sensitivity of 56% and specificity of 86,7% for a 1,5 points score in the scale of self-aggressive behaviors; sensitivity of 68% and specificity of 83,3% for a 0,5 points score in the scale of stereotyped behaviors and; sensitivity of 50% and specificity of 83,3% for a 0,5 points score in the scale of aggressive/destructive behaviors. Correlation analysis made through Pearson coefficient between the scores of BPI-01 and Aberrant Behavior Checklist, and between Autistic Behavior Checklist and CBCL inventories identified medium to moderate statistically significant coefficients. Results show adequate convergent validity indicators among BPI-01, CBCL/1½-5, CBCL/6-18, Aberrant Behavior Checklist and Autistic Behavior Inventory. Based on the results, we conclude that the tool presents adequate psychometric properties of reliability and validity and good indicators of sensitivity and specificity for the identification of behavioral problems in the studied sample

Os mais frequentes são as estereotipias gestuais, verbais e corporais, autoagressividade, irritabilidade, heteroagressividade e comportamentos disruptivos. Identificar precocemente esses problemas permite a realização de intervenções preventivas e/ou remediativas com a finalidade de reduzir prejuízos no funcionamento sócio adaptativo. No Brasil há uma carência de instrumentos padronizados para avaliar problemas de comportamento em pessoas com desenvolvimento atípico. O objetivo do estudo foi verificar as propriedades psicométricas de validade e fidedignidade da versão brasileira do Inventário de Problemas de Comportamento (Behavior Problems Inventory- BPI-01). A amostra foi composta por 130 sujeitos entre 3 e 19 anos de idade de ambos os sexos. Um grupo clínico foi composto por 100 sujeitos com transtorno do neurodesenvolvimento (Transtorno do Espectro Autista-TEA, síndrome de Williams-SW, síndrome de Down-SD e Deficiência Intelectual-DI). O grupo controle pareado por idade e sexo foi composto por 30 sujeitos sem diagnóstico de transtorno do neurodesenvolvimento com habilidades cognitivas preservadas. Também participaram os respectivos cuidadores de ambos os grupos. Os instrumentos de coleta de dados foram Versão Brasileira do Inventário de Problemas Comportamentais (BPI-01), Inventário dos Comportamentos de Crianças e Adolescentes de 6 a 18 anos (CBCL/ 6-18), Inventário dos Comportamentos de Crianças (CBCL/ 1 ½ e 5 anos), Escala de Comportamento Atípico (ABC) e o Inventário de Comportamentos Autísticos (ICA). Os resultados apontaram médias de frequência nas três subescalas do BPI-01 superiores nos grupos clínicos com desenvolvimento atípico. Indicadores de consistência interna entre os itens do BPI-01 mediante o uso do coeficiente Alfa de Cronbach identificaram coeficiente de 0,65 na subescala de frequência de comportamentos autoagressivos, 0,92 na escala de comportamentos estereotipados e 0,82 na escala de comportamentos agressivos/destrutivos. Foi utilizado o método das Curvas de Características de Operação do Receptor (Curva ROC - Receiver Operating Characteristic), com valores de sensibilidade 56% e especificidade 86,7% para um escore de 1,5 pontos na escala de comportamentos autoagressivos; 68% de sensibilidade e 83,3% de especificidade para um escore de 0,5 pontos na escala de comportamentos estereotipados e; 50% de sensibilidade e 83,3% de especificidade para escore igual a 0,5 pontos na escala de comportamentos agressivos/destrutivos. A análise de correlação mediante uso de coeficiente Pearson entre os escores do BPI-01 e os escores da Escala de Comportamento Atípico e o Inventário de Comportamentos Autísticos e os Inventários ASEBA identificaram coeficientes estatisticamente significativos de nível médio a moderado. Os resultados mostraram indicadores de validade convergente adequados entre as escalas do BPI-01 e os inventários CBCL/1 ½ -5, CBCL/6-18, ABCL/18-59, Escala de Comportamento Atípico e o Inventário de Comportamentos Autísticos.
