Resumo: Esta dissertação analisa a possibilidade de uma iconologia do sublime a partir do desenvolvimento das teorias sobre esta categoria estética até o período romântico, proveniente do transbordar da imaginação, e da passagem do sublime da natureza para o sublime na arte. Para isto são usadas como principais referências a teoria de Friedrich Schiller em proximidade com as obras pictóricas de Caspar David Friedrich que exprimem a finitude e pequenez da vida humana diante da imensidão e mistérios da natureza.
