Resumo: The goal of this master thesis is the studying of agricultural higher education in Pernambuco on the 1930’s and 1940’s. Experiencing a momentum where a group of public politics are discussed and implemented we have an expropriation of the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine of St. Benedict by the state government and its consequent restructuring and regulation. We understand that this movement represents the modernizing project of agricultural education offered by the federal government. In this sense, understanding the development of agricultural higher education in Pernambuco becomes very important for understanding the mechanisms of structuring and domination of the university campus, locating within their networks of meanings and conditions of possibilities for strategies that enabled the consolidation of the university project agronomic. To do so, we will use the theoretical and methodological contributions of Pierre Bourdieu who through the notion of social field offers us tools to think about the university campus in its specificities. In this context, our studies point to the interpretation of this process starting with the Field, Habitus and Symbolic Capital concepts, in which we highlight the definition of the agronomic field in Pernambuco from the conflicts and tensions with respect to its own boundary and constituted by its network of relation or oppositions between the social actors.

Vivenciando um momento em que um conjunto de políticas públicas são discutidas e implementadas, teremos a encampação da Escola Superior de Agricultura e Medicina Veterinária de São Bento por parte do governo estadual e sua consequente reestruturação e regulamentação. Entendemos que esse movimento representa o projeto modernizador de educação agrícola proposto pelo governo federal. Nesse sentido, compreender o desenvolvimento do ensino superior agrícola em Pernambuco torna-se de fundamental importância para compreendermos os mecanismos de estruturação e dominação do campo universitário, localizando dentro de suas redes de significados e condições de possibilidades às estratégias que possibilitaram a consolidação do projeto universitário agronômico. Para tanto, utilizaremos as contribuições teórico-metodológicas de Pierre Bourdieu que através da noção de campo social oferece-nos ferramentas para pensar o campo universitário em suas especificidades.
