Resumo: Every constructed building is a patrimony in the broadest sense of heritage, legacy, and wealth, but heritage can be devalued, and renovations are carried out so that inheritance is revalued. The reform reclassifies the form. Recycling reclassifies the function in a symbolic, operational, spatial, and technical dimension, separately or together. Reform is the West's default constructive mode throughout history. But the renovated work does not differ from the new work as an instrument at the service of a prosaic program in each situation, nor as a root good that has a cost and provides benefits, eventually constituting an object of aesthetic delight. This article presents examples that fit, at least in part, this special type of reform that is restoration, and discusses cases of interventions in monuments, based on the argument that cultural assets are not reproducible.

La reforma reclasifica la forma. El reciclaje reclasifica la función en una dimensión simbólica, operativa, espacial y técnica, por separado o en conjunto. La reforma es el modo constructivo predeterminado de Occidente a lo largo de la historia. Pero la obra renovada no se diferencia de la obra nueva como instrumento al servicio de un programa prosaico en una situación dada, ni como un bien raíz que tiene un costo y brinda beneficios, constituyéndose eventualmente en objeto de deleite estético. Este artículo presenta ejemplos que se ajustan, al menos en parte, a este tipo especial de reforma que es la restauración, y analiza casos de intervenciones en monumentos, bajo el argumento de que los bienes culturales no son reproducibles.Todo edifício construído é um patrimônio no sentido lato de herança, legado e riqueza, mas um patrimônio pode se desvalorizar, e a reforma se faz para que o patrimônio se revalorize. A reforma requalifica a forma. A reciclagem requalifica a função em dimensão simbólica, operacional, espacial e técnica, separadamente ou em conjunto. A reforma é o modo construtivo padrão do Ocidente ao longo da história. Mas a obra reformada não difere da obra nova enquanto instrumento a serviço de um programa prosaico em uma situação dada, nem enquanto bem de raiz que tem custo e proporciona benefício, eventualmente constituindo objeto de deleite estético.
