Legislation and landscape design: a reding of rua Aurora in Recife from the historic urban landscape

Resumo: This article discusses the action of legislation in the design of landscapes from the case of Rua da Aurora, one of the water fronts in the historic center of Recife, from the perspective of the Historic Urban Landscape associated with the concept of palimpsest. Based on historical and documental investigation of legislations, cartographic maps and photographs, a four-stage reading of this landscape is made: (i) Time 1: the beginning of the landfills and the consolidation of Rua da Aurora; (ii) Time 2: the modernization phase; (iii) Time 3: the preservation period and (iv) Time 4: the time of the skyscrapers. The analysis of the municipal and state legislations in these four historical times allowed us to understand the role that these regulations had as drivers and guides for the modifications and consolidations, revealing landscape designs in Rua da Aurora.
