“Caminhão da ciência”: characterization, paths and contributions to scientific education in Western Bahia State - Brazil

Resumo: Museums and mobile science centres are very important to the popularization of science in the country, since a large part of the population does not have access to permanent sci-entific-cultural spaces and/or is distant from those when they exist. Thus, this research discusses the activities carried out by the "Caminhão da Ciência" Project in the Western region of the Bahia State (Brazil), building reflections from these actions and from the an-swers sent by schools attended by the Project in the period 2017 to 2019. For that, an ini-tial contextualization was build, characterizing the region in which the Project is part and his educational challenges. Then, were discussed some questions about scientific commu-nication in mobile science museums, their possibilities and challenges, based on the litera-ture of the area. In the methodological aspects, the qualitative nature of research was dis-cussed, in which the Case Study was chosen. The main results of the research were: the previous contact with the Project, through teachers who knew it when they studied at the university, was important for most of the schools attended; the Project was seen by most schools as a valuable space for science learning that involved both school students and people from the general community, who participated in the attendances, and; in addition to suggesting the expansion of the project's communication activities, the schools sur-veyed highlighted the motivating and instigating character of the experiments and exhibi-tion materials, mainly the planetarium, which instigate the curiosity of the school commu-nity. Finally, some possibilities were discussed in view of the results obtained and chal-lenges of the Project at the present moment.

Neste sentido, a presente pesquisa discute as atividades realizadas pelo projeto “Caminhão da Ciência” na região oeste do Estado da Bahia, procurando-se tecer reflexões a partir dessas ações e de respostas fornecidas por escolas atendidas pelo Projeto no período de 2017 a 2019. Para isso, foi realizada uma contextualização inicial, caracterizando a região em que o Projeto se insere e os desafios educacionais nela existentes. Em seguida, são discutidos alguns apontamentos acerca das atividades de divulgação científica itinerantes, suas possibilidades e desafios com base na literatura da área. Nos encaminhamentos metodológicos foi discutida a natureza qualitativa da pesquisa e o estudo de caso como procedimento utilizado. Os principais resultados da pesquisa foram: o contato prévio com o Projeto, através de professores que o conheceram quando estudaram na universidade, sendo de extrema importância para a maioria das escolas atendidas; o Projeto foi visto por grande parte das escolas como um espaço rico para o aprendizado de Ciências que envolveu tanto os alunos da escola como pessoas da comunidade em geral, que participaram dos atendimentos, e; além de sugerir a ampliação das atividades de divulgação do Projeto, as escolas pesquisadas destacaram o caráter motivador e instigante dos experimentos e materiais expositivos, especialmente o planetário, que aguçaram a curiosidade da comunidade escolar.
