Resumo: The use of fossil fuels for transportation is an important cause of environmentaldegradation, especially in the case of air pollution generated by heavy vehicles such as citybuses. It is therefore relevant to discuss alternative forms of fuel for collective urbantransportation, using as example the city of Campinas. The objective of this article is toassess the impacts of diesel substitution by biodiesel or by electrical energy applyingeconomic, social and environmental performance indicators. The Full Cost AccountingEvaluation is the proposed methodology. It is an appropriate tool when studyingsustainability because of the flexibility of economic, environmental and social indicatorsthat can be used to evaluate different kind of fuels. As a result, electricity appears to bethe most efficient fuel among those analyzed, mainly due to the environmentalcomponent.

O objetivo deste artigo é avaliar os impactos da substituição dodiesel por biodiesel ou pela energia elétrica a partir de indicadores de desempenhoeconômico, social e ambiental.
