Resumo: OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relationship between classroom teaching activity and teachers' perception of vocal effort, especially after periods of two class hours (approximately 1h40m).METHODS: The study selected 32 university lecturers, excluding those with voice-affecting conditions or recent exposure to loud noises. Data was collected before and after 2-hour lectures, using a sociodemographic questionnaire and the Borg CR - 10BR scale for vocal effort. Analyses were carried out using STATISTICA 7.0® software.RESULTS: The sample consisted of 32 university professors, with ages ranging from 33 to 63 years and a median of 47 years. The results indicated a statistically significant increase in self-perceived vocal effort after two hours of teaching activity, as evidenced by the scores on the Borg CR-10BR Scale.CONCLUSIONS: There is an increase in the self-perception of vocal strain among teachers, both in the female and male groups and in the general population. This symptom increase can be attributed to environmental noise, among other possible causes.
